Social Mobility - Does it actually exist?
Lets face it...we in the UK are given examples of these amazing people who we are almost tricked into thinking came out of nowhere, came from an impoverished working class background to become successful business types. Most of the current cabinet - privately educated, people like Simon Cowell - he was so much of a rebel supposedly, but in reality daddy and mummy worked in the TV industry and pulled strings to get him where he is. Richard Branson - private education, the list goes ever onwards. About the only person who I shall give some minor gravitas to is Alan Sugar, however I think under that 'Del Boy' Sheen there was some investment from his family The fact is - all I see is 'who you know' everywhere. Most people in the UK are poor and have fragmented lives, no stability, no 2.4 kids and a nice house in the home counties area around London. People need jobs, the wealth needs to be spread. I'm glad the government is making it harder to claim benefits, and I'm sure there are lots of things the government has in there little plan and we can do to save the country money So.. Social mobility - how can the general public improve there lives if they are trapped on one level, those on the benefit level, those with qualifications coming out of every orifice [what a waste of time university was may I add - thanks for all those guaranteed jobs out there and a slow destruction of our manufacturing sector] These problems - too many people, not enough jobs, keeps people trapped in the benefit bubble. We have people who are in there 20-30's still living at home with there parents for god sake! We have people who cannot complete mortgage repayments who have given this country taxes! People in there 40-50 not ready to retire with a wealth of knowledge who have been shoved out of there jobs nicely with some dead end pension deal or just sacked full stop. They are sat at home and they want to contribute to this country! We have families who need both parents to scrape any kind of living together to raise a family they surely could never afford to produce in the first place. All of these problems - the lives of the common people are going on all around. I don't see anyone climbing the ladder of 'social mobility' Nick Clegg - don't lie to us! You never had to even put a step on any ladder my privately education friend. So as much as you 'love' Sheffield, you and Mr Letwin are one and the same, you exist on another plain of existence, where reality is a dream, it doesn't effect you its just like a monopoly game! Do you even live in your constituency? Do most MP's? The majority of MP's do not reflect the people - they are far from the reality of their constituency. No one ever takes a step DOWN the ladder of social mobility do they? unless its for some crappy ITV program with failed Z-list celebrities. Social Mobility may exist...but for a minute, miniscule percentage of the population, who more than likely were given a shove up the ladder my 'someone they know'. Your trapped people - its time to revolt!

Is it possible to get a home loan if you are on a disability pension?
I have a deposit but suffer from a lot of pain so don't want mortgage repayments that are really high. I may be able to work in the future if I can get adequate medical support however at he moment. I may need to get work despite my physical condition to qualify for a loan, but it would be at a great risk to my health.
